 Biography - Vicente Alexandre
Alexandre wrote his poetry in free verse. When he was 24, he devoted himself entirely to writing. His first book, AMBITO (ENVIRONMENT), was published six years later. Many of his early poems were political in nature, but his later poems revealed his spiritual longings.

Vicente Alexandre, recipient of the 1977 Nobel Prize for Literature, was born in Seville, Spain. His father was a civil engineer. He studied law at the University of Madrid and the Madrid School of Economics. He worked as an assistant professor at the Schol of Mercantile Management and later for the Andalusian Railways. During the Spanish Civil War his works were banned and his house was destroyed. He was not allowed to publish for a long time under Franco's regime.
