This group is dedicated to the one of the oldest, most amazing, enchanting and beautiful countries in the world - Libnan! Lebanon is one of the smallest countries in the world (smaller than the state of Conneticuit) yet its amazing people, its rich and unique culture to the Middle East and its long history and accomplishments of its people make this small country a very unique and special place in the world. The Lebanese are not Arabs (as they are commonly mistaken as in the West), but decendants of the Phonecians who were sea fairing people (the Arabs came from the desert farther east). The Phonecians invented mathmatics, the first alphabet, astronomy and navigation. They were also famous for the indigo purple dye that they made which was extremely difficult to make and extremely sough after by the wealthy. This is why the color purple is associated with royalty. The name "Phonecians" means "the purple people." Lebanon is known as " The Land of Milk and Honey" and "The Pearl of the Middle East". It is home to the infamous Lebanese cedars that still stand thousands of years old, long before the time of Christ, Byblos - the oldest and longest inhabited city in the world (more than 5,000 years) where Jesus fed the crowd of 5,000, the Jietta Grotto, it is the perfect blend of Eastern and Western culture and the land of religious diversity and tolerance in the Middle East. It is the very shiek, cosmopolitan, fashionable, sought after, home of Beyrouth, "the Paris of the Middle East", the incomprable and breathtaking Libnan.
I welcome all of you who would like to join for this purpose and welcome to share a piece of our heavenly Motherland, our coveted Libnan!
"...Be proud that your fathers and mothers came from a land upon which God laid his gracious hand and raised his messengers."
- Gibran Kahlil Gibran
The cedar tree in the center is a symbol of strength, eternity, holiness, and the peace of the nation.
The red represents the peoples’ struggle for independence and the white represents peace and purity.
The red and white colors are also linked to the Kayssites and Yemenites, two opposing clans from as early as 600 BC.
Ana bahebik fi kul albey, ya Libnan!
