A place for anyone interested in the history of the SCA period (Western Europe from 410 to 1600 CE) to share what they know or ask questions.
This is not only a group for people who "know" their history--so whether you're an academic professional, dabbler or beginner, join the discussion! The only dumb question is the one not asked!
While the primary focus here is history as it relates to the period covered by the SCA, non-SCA folk are certainly welcome, as are topics outside the "official" SCA scope, such as medieval Japan or ancient Rome/Greece.
While the SCA is a hobby, the goal here is to provide accurate information substantiated where possible by academic research. Offense should not be taken at polite requests for citations or sources of information for unusual or controversial views or information.
Religious discussion policy: The SCA has a policy of absolute tolerance for all religions and belief systems, which Cecily vehemently agrees with. However, religion was a huge part of life in the Middle Ages and a heavy influence on the course of history. Discussions of religious topics are welcome as long as people can maintain polite objectivity and respect for differing views. No proselytizing!
While membership must be approved by the group owner, everyone is welcome and will be approved promptly. This is just to give some remedy in case someone starts behaving badly. Cecily hates to be shutting the barn door after the horse is out.
This is not an official SCA group. All views expressed here are solely the opinions of the posters.
