(p mp ´ j rô´läm bätô´n ) (KEY) , 1708–87, Italian painter. Batoni studied and worked in Rome, learning much from the work of Corregio and Raphael. His paintings tend toward the neoclassical, a style echoing that of Mengs. Among his notable works are The Education of Achilles (Uffizi), Aeneas and His Family Fleeing Troy (Turin), and Mary Magdalen (Louvre). Batoni is noted mainly for his portraits.
